Reading, March 2009 - Professional Security Magazine

Following the Global MSC Security Seminar in Reading on 4th March 2009, Professional Security Magazine published an article in the April 09 edition covering the updates given by Garry Parkins and Geoff Teale of the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) on the newly formed National CCTV Board and by DCI Mick Neville of the Metropolitan Police on the usage of CCTV footage as evidence. Torbay CCTV and Community Control Centre Upgrade

Global MSC Security has been appointed by Torbay Council to provide a review with costed options, of the Council’s 15 year old analogue 200 + camera CCTV system in the Torquay, Paignton and Brixham areas.

Subject to the recommendations, Global MSC Security will project manage the upgrade of the cameras, transmission and implement the installation of a new multi-service Community Control Centre.

Bristol City Council Waste Disposal Unit

Bristol City Council have a number of waste disposal sites around the City which contain valuable scrap metals and other materials making them vulnerable to theft whilst the sites are not staffed. MSC is conducting an investigation to ensure such breaches are alerted to the control room and action taken using cameras and loudspeakers to deter and identify the culprits.

Additionally, MSC is looking at implementing the use of Number Plate Recognition that will assist in the management of the sites where commercial waste is being dumped at various sites around the city. By installing such a centralised database, it will be possible to identify the frequent users and deter them from using and exploiting this public facility.

Camera Review at Bristol Retail Park

Global MSC Security has been commissioned by DTZ to review the security requirements including physical and manned guarding operations at a Retail Park near Bristol and ensure the money spent in providing such a service is being matched by the results achieved.

Covert Surveillance Training with Southeastern

Global MSC Security is providing a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Foot Surveillance training, for plain clothes surveillance officers, for the rail organisation, Southeastern.

The skills being delivered (over 5 days) are indispensable for working with CCTV operations, planning and for gathering evidence by covert means. Operatives will be taught a range of legal and operational issues, but focusing on how to carry out surveillance on foot, public transport and from static locations.

Global MSC Security Seminar - Reading, 4th March 09

The Global MSC Security Spring Seminar was held in Reading on 4th March 2009 on the subject of “Thinking Ahead…Upgrade & Integration”. The event (free to registered delegates) took place at the De Vere Wokefield Park Hotel in Reading. The event attracted 40 manufacturer and integrating exhibitors and approximately 90 end users. DCI Mick Neville delivered a controversal speech on how the police are not making best use of recorded CCTV evidence which generated a great deal of debate with the audience.

Garry Parkins and Geoff Teale (of the NPIA) delivered an update on driving the National Strategy CCTV recommendations forward via the newly formed National CCTV Board.

Terry Bolton and Tony Holinrake of Wigan Council discussed how they spent their money wisely upgrading their CCTV Control Room. Ray Stead of Portsmouth City discussed the pitfalls to avoid when upgrading your Control Room and Robby Holgate of Stevenage Borough Council discussed generating an income when monitoring other Local Authority areas.

In addition, several manufacturers gave an insight into developments in technology and how their products can be used to assist in the upgrade and integration of CCTV systems.

During the day, delegates entered a draw to win a balloon flight for two which was kindly donated by BWS Security Systems. The flight was won by Mick Neville of the Metropolitan Polce.

Prior to the Seminar, during the day on 3rd March, PersideS hosted a golf day. A dozen golf fans turned up for bacon sandwiches followed by 18 holes of golf playing an individual Stableford golf tournament. PersideS then presented awards for winners at the networking dinner which was hosetd at Wokefield Park on the evening of 3rd March. Overall winner of the event was Mark Taylor of Telindus and runner up was Rhodri Briggs of Safer South Gloucestershire. The boobie prize went to our very own Derek Maltby!

The networking dinner took place at Wokefield Park on the evening of 3rd March where over 90 end-users and exhibitors enjoyed a relaxed and fun filled evening. During the dinner, there was an opportunity to enter a raffle to win two MP3 players and a bottle of whiskey which had been donated by Norbain and Samsung Electronics. The money raised from the raffle (which came to a grand total of £250) was donated to the Eve Appeal. Unfortunately due to the weather BWS were unable to inflate their hot air balloon and offer tethered flights but on the morning of 4th March they were able to inflate the balloon at the entrance the exhibition to greet attendees.
