We were delighted to host the Global MSC Security Seminar and Exhibition, in conjunction with Safe Newcastle, aimed at CCTV, Facility and Security Managers, on Tuesday 8th November 2011on the subject of 'The Protection of Freedoms Bill - An Update' Speakers included:
"The officer from the Met gave an excellent and stimulating presentation and the event always features a good keynote address" - Ken Wilson, Nexus
Interim CCTV Regulator Andrew Rennison was the keynote speaker and delivered a very thought provoking presentation on how regulation may look once the Protection of Freedoms Bill is passed (due Spring 2012), Judith Jones of the Information Comissioners Office gave the audience an update on the Bill. Whilst Mick
Neville of the Met Poilice and Nigel Horsfall of Everything Everywhere talked candidly about the August Riots and how CCTV helped to catch and convict those responsible.
After lunch there was a ‘Question Time’ style debate where the audience were able to pose questions to the expert panel who will included Nigel Horsfall, Judith Jones, Simon Adcock (BSIA), Peter Webster (Slough Borough Council) and Alan Gardner (London Borough of Enfield). Throughout the day, there was the opportunity to enter a draw to win a fabulous iPad2 which was kindly donated by 360 Vision. The winner was David Down of Newcastle City Council.
We staged a private networking dinner on the evening of 7th November 2011 to allow exhibitors and delegates to meet in a relaxed atmosphere before the more formal event the following day and was staged at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel. Throughout the evening there was a fundraising raffle to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Fabulous prizes were donated which included a Motorola Xoom donated by UK Broadband (won by Kevin Bruce of USS) , a bottle of vintage cognac from NVT(won by Jason Piggott of Dallmeier) ,a digital camera from COE,
(won by Howard da Costa of Commend) a Ferrari Red Letter Day from Norbain (won by Karl Blemar of Freespace) dinner B&B at the Gosforth Marriott donated by Marriott Hotels (won by Stephen King of Zenitel) and
a bottle of champage donated by Steve Dobby of Bosch (won by Dominic Scarr of UK Broadband). We raised £650 for a very worthy charity. Additionally, in memory of our dearly missed friend the late John Broomfield,
CCTV Manager for
Nottingham City Council, MSC donated a Kindle which was raffled to raise funds for John's chosen charities.The winner was Michelle Ryall of Pelco.
As part of the drinks reception prior to the evening dinner at 7.30pm, our drinks sponsor ,CCTV lighting specialists Raytec hosted a short and practical test night demonstration for all attendees - held within the grounds of Gosforth Park. Raytec highlighted some of the practical issues
facing security professionals in achieving high performance CCTV images at night. Raytec engineerstested the performance of the latest Infra-Red and White-Light LED technology with a range of camera and lens combinations, including IP and Megapixel technology. The session also focused on the improved system performance, and the energy and cost savings made possible by switching from old style wasteful lighting technology to new low energy LED technology. Attendees were able to see firsthand the integration of different components, get the best installation and set-up advice, and pose specific testing requests.
Additionally, during the day on 7th November 2011 we hosted an indoor Go Karting championship. We had a great turnout for the fun event and despite lots of dubious overtaking and a couple of 'near misses' we had an action packed finale. The overall winner of the event was Steve Dobby of Bosch, second was Stuart Moaby of Maidstone Council and third was Andy Cassidy of Norbain. It was a uncharacteristically sunny day and after the karting was finished we all enjoyed pizza for lunch in the sunshine.
GLOBAL MSC SECURITY SEMINAR, 8th MARCH 2011, BRISTOL
We were de
lighted to host tthe Global MSC Security Seminar and Exhibition in conjunction with South Gloucestershire and Bristol City Councils aimed at public space CCTV and Security Managers on the subject of, “The Freedom Bill - How Will it Affect CCTV and Its Regulation”. The event was staged at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel in Bristol on Tuesday 8th March 2011. Speakers included:

Chief Surveillance Inspector Sam Lincoln was the keynote speaker and delivered a very thought provoking presentation on the impact the recently announced Protection of Freedoms Bill may have on security systems, expecially on RIPA requirements. Chris Brogan of the Security Institute gave the audience an outline of the Bill and Giles Miskin of the Colourworks gave a very interesting insight to the dynamics of working as part of a team, concentraing on how to best use the skills of each of your team members.
After lunch there was a ‘Question Time’ style debate where the audience were able to pose questions to the expert panel who will included Bill Butler, Chris Brogan, David White (Global MSC Security), Paul Mackie, Dr Peter Fussey and Alan Gardner.

the evening there was a fund

NVT, a digital camera from Rapidvu, a Red Letter Day from Norbain, a digital photo frame from COE and a DPA health check from Camerawatch. We raised £640 for a very worthy charity.

We were delighted to host the Global MSC Security Seminar and Exhibition with Safe Newcastle entitled “CCTV - Its Public Perception and How We Can Improve It” The event took place on 16th November 2010 at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel. The event attracted over 50 manufacturing and integration exhibitors and well over 120 end-users to listen to informative and lively presentations and to view the latest developments in CCTV and security products. Speakers at the event were:

Deputy Chief Constable Graeme Gerrard opened the seminar and talked about "Influencing the Public's Perception on CCTV". He talked in depth about the statistics surrounding CCTV's use in solving crime and how it is perceived by the public including examples of bad press.
Dr Peter Fussey of the University of Essex gave a thought provoking presentation into the ethical debate on CCTV and discussed the pros and cons of surveillance, Martin Lazell of the PCMA posed questions and thoughts for delegates to consider over the future funding of CCTV whilst Gordon McLanaghan of Bristol City Council spoke about producing newsletters to enlighten the public on good news stories from the use of CCTV.
After lunch Alex Deane, Director of Big Brother Watch shared his organisation's concerns about CCTV and the use of surveillance. Following this there was a ‘Question Time’ style debate where the audience posed questions to the panel who included DCC Graeme Gerrard, Alex Deane, Colin
Murphy (PCMA), Simon Adcock (BSIA) Dr Pete Fussey and Gordon McLanaghan. You can view the full debate here

Prior to the Seminar, during the day on 15th November, one of our exhibitors, Openview Group, hosted a go-karting event. Almost 40 people attended the event which was extremely good fun. Openview presented awards for winners at the networking dinner which was hosted at the Gosforth Marriott on the evening of 15th November. Overall winner of the event was Steve Dobby of Bosch,
second place was Andy Cassidy of Norbain and third place was Jonathan Sturley of Arc Monitoring.
Additionally, Darren Cunliffe and Stephen King of Zenitel, Mark Ingleson of Openview and MSC's own David 'Sweety' Sweetland completed their 160 mile bike ride from Whitehaven, accross The Pennines to Newcastle on the day of the Networking Dinner and were present to announce that they had raised almost £3000 for Help for Heroes.
GLOBAL MSC SECURITY SEMINAR - 9th MARCH 2010

We were delighted to host the first Global MSC Security Spring Seminar
and Exhibition in Bristol in conjunction with Safer South Gloucestershire and Safer Bristol. The event took place on 9th March 2010 at the Bristol Royal Marriott Hotel on the subject of "Putting The National CCTV Strategy Into Practice" The event attracted nearly 50 manufacturing and integration exhibitors and well over 100 end-users to listen to informative and lively presentations and to view the latest developments in CCTV and security products. Speakers at the event were:

Assistant Chief Constable John Long
opened the seminar and talked briefly on the benefits of CCTV for crime reduction. Andy Rennison was unable to attend in person but a gave a presentation by video on what his role as CCTV Regulator is to involve. Alan Pratt from the Home Office talked about how the National CCTV Oversight Body will be implementing the recommendations made by the National CCTV Strategy. Geoff Teale and Garry Parkins of the NPIA were also on hand to give updates on the Strategy and answer questions raised by the audience.

Dr Peter Fussey of the University of East London gave a stimulating presentation into the ethical debate on CCTV and discussed the pros and cons of surveillance whilst Bill Oddy of West Oxfordshire District Council talked about reducing expenditure and generating income during a recession. John Hirst of West Country Crimestoppers gave an insight into how the charity is contributing to crime prevention and reduction.

In the afternoon short presentations were given by parties in the Bristol area
who are working together as recommeded by the Strategy. Gordon McLanaghan of the Bristol Emergency Control Centre opened the session talking about how his control centres works and was followed by Rod Briggs of Safer South Gloucesterhire who's images are monitored by the Control Centre. John Laite of BCC Traffic Centre then talked about how the
cameras in Bristol share images between traffic management and public space monitoring. Jerry Woods of Bristol Unversity talked about how they are planning on sharing images and infrastructure with Bristol City Council and DS Sim Cryer of Avon & Somerset Constabulary rounded up the session discussing how the police have used images to convict terrorists and other serious criminal offenders.

In addition to the Seminar on 9th March 2010, during the day on 8th March, there was opportunity to visit the Bristol City Council's Emergency Control Room and meet with Gordon McLanaghan and his team to see how the National CCTV Strategy is being put into practice by working with other Councils and organisations. There was also an opportunity to visit the Bristol City Council Traffic Management Control Centre and meet with John Laite and his team who are managing the flow of Traffic in and around Bristol. There were over 50 visitors to the Control Rooms during the day who found the experience extremely worthwhile.

Newcastle & Global MSC Security Seminar and Exhibition in conjunction with Government Office for the North East and The Security Institue on Tuesday 17th November 2009.The event took place at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel on the subject of "Risk Reward - Getting the Balance Right by Driving Efficiency" . The event attracted nearly 50 manufacturing and integration exhibitors and over 100 end-users to listen to informative and lively presentations and to view the latest developments in CCTV and security products. Dr
Mike Carter, Director of Executive Education for the University of Exeter, opened the seminar with a thought provoking look at the impending Government budget cuts Local Authorities are likely to face and how forward planning can avoid drastic measures.
Mick Harrison (of the NPIA) and David
White (Gobal MSC Security) delivered a presentation on the importance of CCTV training for operatives. Jerry Woods (University of Bristol) delivered an insightful presentation on how security costs at the University had been reduced and efficiency had been increased through careful planning. John Broomfield (Nottingham City Council) talked about developments with staffing the Nottingham CCTV system, Helen Garbutt (of Your Homes Newcastle - YHN) gave a background into the need for YHN to renew their entire security system and Chief Superintendant John Buckley (Avon & Somerset Constabulary) talked about how the police use images.
In the afternoon, Garry Parkins (of the NPIA) delivered an update on developments with the CCTV Board followed by an open forum for delegates to ask questions which produced a lively debate. In addition, several manufacturers gave an insight into developments in technology and how their products can be used to to provide a rewarding CCTV system. which was hosted at the Gosforth Marriott on the evening of 16th November. Overall winner of the event was Gary Calvert of Wireless CCTV, second place was Jason Piggott of Dallmeier and third place was Steve Dobby of Bosch.
The networking dinner took place at the Gosforth Marriott on the evening of
16th November where over 130 end-users and exhibitors enjoyed a relaxed and fun filled evening. During the dinner, there
was an opportunity to enter a raffle to win a camcorder players which had been donated by COE. The winner was Anne Boyd of Your Homes Newcastle. The money raised from the raffle (which came to a
grand total of £650) was donated to the BBC Children In Need Appeal. In addition, Norbain donated an MP3 player which was the prize for a game of Heads and Tails. The winner was Jim Summers of Select Electrics and the money raised (which amounted to £200) was donated to the Help for Heroes charity.
